Sexual wellness is closely connected to both how you perceive your body and how you feel within it. Unfortunately, many men today face barriers to achieving optimal sexual health and function due to a culture of silence. Hormonal imbalances, age, stress, and feelings of shame or embarrassment about physiological issues can lead to common but entirely treatable problems that, when left unaddressed, prevent men from looking, feeling, and performing their best in the bedroom.
At The Hormone Zone Med Spa, led by hormone and sexual wellness experts Dr. John A. Robinson and Dr. Cristina Romero-Bosch, we take a holistic, personalized approach to each patient. We don’t just treat the symptoms that are holding you back from a satisfying sex life—we focus on improving your overall health so you can engage fully in relationships and live with confidence. Sexual Wellness Solutions for Men at The Hormone Zone Med Spa
What are the most common types of sexual dysfunction in men?
Sexual dysfunction in men is typically divided into four categories:
- Pain disorders
- Orgasm disorders (such as delayed or absent orgasm)
- Desire disorders (lack of sexual interest or desire)
- Arousal disorders (inability to become physically aroused during sexual activity)
For men, common symptoms of sexual dysfunction include:
- Inability to control ejaculation timing, including premature ejaculation or delayed ejaculation (either the absence or significant delay of orgasm)
- Erectile dysfunction (ED), or the inability to achieve or maintain an erection firm enough for intercourse
- Hormonal imbalances, which are a leading cause of ED and other sexual dysfunctions in men, can contribute to low libido, weaker or shorter orgasms, low testosterone, and difficulty reaching orgasm.
What is the role of testosterone in men’s sexual wellness?
Testosterone, although produced by both men and women, is often called the “male” hormone. It plays a crucial role in regulating sex drive (libido), sperm production, red blood cell creation, and muscle mass and strength. For men, testosterone levels typically peak during puberty, around the ages of 18 to 20, before gradually declining at a rate of about 1% per year, with most men starting to notice the effects around age 30.
Just as women experience menopause and a drop in estrogen, men also undergo a gradual decrease in testosterone levels, although it tends to happen more slowly and subtly. As testosterone declines, various bodily functions—especially those related to sexual wellness—begin to experience diminished performance.
Testosterone deficiency in men can lead to a range of symptoms often mistakenly attributed to aging, including:
- Disrupted sleep
- Low sperm count
- Slow wound healing
- Irritability, memory loss, or reduced mental sharpness
- Feelings of depression or anxiety
- Osteoporosis
- Decreased muscle mass and strength
- Weight gain
- Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries, which can lead to heart attack or stroke)
- Reduced libido and difficulty maintaining erections
- Fatigue or decreased physical stamina
Restoring testosterone levels to maintain hormonal balance can help improve:
- Energy levels
- Muscle mass
- Bone density
- Libido
- Mental well-being and mood
- Erectile function
- Red blood cell production
- Facial and body hair growth
