They are made of polydioxanone (PDO), which promotes cellular reproduction, thus producing collagen production. Irregular surfaces are often treated three times about four weeks apart. Smooth threads are used often to treat texture irregularities and acne scarring.

PDO Thread Lift
This is a treatment that lifts and tightens sagging skin using threads made of polydioxanone. The lifting thread is introduced deep into the layers of skin and provides instant skin lifting in addition to promoting cellular/collagen renewal to improve texture, fine lines, and wrinkles. The threads metabolize or disappear after six months however the lifted facial contours can remain for up to two years due to the cellular rejuvenation.
